Architect/Engineer Selection

Tibbals Learning Center, Phase II
Ringling Museum, Florida State University, FS-299A

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The site is located on the Ringling Campus in Sarasota west of the Tibbals Learning Center (Phase I). The new facility will connect directly to and be fully integrated with Phase I. The project consists of design and construction of approximately 20,000 gsf of new document storage, display/exhibition space and support space.

The selected architectural firm may be asked to masterplan the entire site for future buildings or to program additions for the Circus Museum and/or the Art Museum. Further, at its discretion, FSU may exercise its option to use the selected firm to design any such buildings or additions.

All design work and construction quality is expected to conform with University guidelines and be compatible with adjacent buildings on campus. The project will seek LEED certification; therefore, the selected design team will be expected to be familiar with LEED concepts and components.

The selected architectural firm will be required to provide design, construction documents, and construction administration for the project. The delivery system for construction will be construction management.

PROJECT BUDGET
The project budget is $8,000,000 of which the construction budget is approximately $6,165,000.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Firms will be evaluated in the following areas: current workload, location, past performance, volume of Florida State University work, and experience and ability. Criteria to be considered in the assignment of “Experience and Ability” scores include, but are not limited to: experience with related projects and expertise of the assigned team.

Selection recommendation approval (approximate date) February 23, 2009
Contract negotiation (approximate date) March 4, 2009

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • All applicants will be notified of the results of the short listing via the FSU Office of Facilities Design & Construction web site. Interview times for finalists will be posted at this web site address, as well.
  • The Selection Committee will make a recommendation to the University President. Final ranking of firms will also be posted on the Facilities Design & Construction web site. Upon approval by the President, negotiations will be conducted in accordance with Section 287.055, Florida Statutes.


  • Professional liability insurance is required for this project in the amount of $500,000.
